Q: Several members have written about how to get the plastic taste out of electric drip coffee makers. We've tried Krups, Cuisinart, Braun and others. They all have plastic water tanks and coffee grind holders, and use plastic tubes to carry hot water.

A: try Bunn. They have those commercial industrial type coffee makers. The ones you listed are mostly for personal use.

home-brewed coffee causes diarrhea, shop-brewed doesn't... why?

Yet another coffee and diarrhea question... ;-)

Why would coffee I brew at home cause diarrhea while coffee I buy at a store or shop (or McD's) does not?

- Same problem at home, Maxwell House or Starbucks. Diluted coffee

yes but i also find that any warm liquid passing through your body first thing in the morning or after sleeping or resting for 5 or more hours is going to get your bowels going.... odd that store bought coffee wouldnt have that effect.....

Perk Up!

In a perfect world, I would stumble out of my bedroom in the morning – incoherent and clumsy – and find my own personal coffee shop, with my own private barista, awaiting me with piping-hot caffeinated goodness. Unfortunately, when I do materialize from under my plushy duvet, the closest thing to a coffee shop I’ve got is a Braun drip coffee maker. This Braun machine is a hand-me-down from my parents, who used it for many years before upgrading to a space-age looking thing, which makes far better coffee than my reject coffee maker. The thing is, there is an ideal range of temperature in which coffee should be brewed – if it’s too cold, under-extraction occurs and the coffee ends up weak, regardless of your beans (as is the case with my Braun). However, going too hot is also detrimental to your java, and can extract bitter flavors from the beans. So right off the bat, I’m not doing so hot with my Braun – literally! I buy great beans (right now I’m working on a bag of Kick Ass coffee from Kicking Horse Coffee), and I always ensure they’re stored properly and kept fresh. But it would be appear my Braun is failing me. To add to the temperature dilemma, the built-in filter is showing signs of wear and tear, and I’ll often find vagabond coffee grounds at the bottom of my mug – the crunch wakes me up, but that’s the best I can say about the situation.
