This was purchased to replace the original cleaner that came with my Braun 8000. The one it replaces was original to the shaver, and finally the pump died on it. The Clean & Charge Base serves two functions, the first to clean the shaver (with a special cleaner) and also to charge the shaver. I also use it to hold the shaver while not in use. While you can use the shaver without the cleaning system, it does prolong the blade life and is simple to use. replacing the cleaner catridges is very simple and the unit lets you know when it is time to change the cartridge. I rely on the Clean & Charge base, and really missed it when my old one died. You will notice that the blades feel clean and sharper each time you use it (typically I brush off the blades daily, and use the cleaner/recharging weekly).
If you own a Braun 8000, this is a necessary tool to keep the Braun cutting properly. Blade replacement is expensive, and this helps prolong the need to replace the blades.
