For goalie Leland Irving, this is a cause close to his heart, as Irving is a survivor of childhood cancer. At age seven, Irving was diagnosed with rhabdomyosarcoma. This is a potentially terminal cancer that impacts the muscles where they attach to the bone. Irving lost his hair during the 13 months of chemotherapy he received, but he’s been cancer free ever since, going on to become a professional hockey player.
Irving hasn't forgotten what the experience he went through as a child.
"This disease touches everyone and I want to be able to do whatever I can to give back to organizations that assist children and families like they did when I went through this," Irving said before the fundraiser.
"Irving is just such a great example of courage, never giving up and living life to the fullest," said. Banman.
For cancer patients and cancer research Sundays event was certainly a success.
