Regis and producer Michael Gelman first visited Buffalo in March of 1990 to host the "Gourmet Gala" for the March Of Dimes. The visit was such a hit, Regis devoted his opening segment to the experience with Kathie Lee. Return visits included concerts at Melody Fair in 1991, followed by several trips from the "LIVE" television show to Niagara Falls, Ontario in the late 1990's, and as recently as 2006.
Regis has also brought his concert show to the Fallsview Casino with his wife Joy several times. He told "Eyewitness News" on one of those visits that he felt "re-charged by all the eons and power of the Falls!"
Eyewitness News anchor Keith Radford will have even more on Regis Philbin Thursday night at 11p.m., following the ABC NEWS special that airs earlier in the evening at 8p.m. when Regis talks with Katie Couric about his life, career, and new book.
There is another Buffalo connection to "LIVE With Regis and Kelly." The Program Director for WABC-TV and Executive In Charge Of Production for the show, Art Moore, was a director at WKBW-TV in the 1970's. Art is often involved in many of the comedy bits on the show, and can be seen on the sidelines with Producer Michael Gelman.
