Almost every suggestion I’ve received when trying to assess my skills and experience in order to figure out what to do with my life (i.e., career) was the same—specialize. “Most successful people achieve that status because they focus on one thing and do that one thing well,” they’d say. That advice worried me…I had not only been raised with the mindset that being well-rounded is a desirable quality to have, but I’ve maintained my childlike curiosity and honestly enjoy learning about all kinds of things. Not only do I like to learn new things, but I like to figure out how I can apply them to a particular situation, so I attend all kinds of events and seminars.
