Randy Shaver, University of Wisconsin, will discuss dairy cattle starch research and David Mertens, Mertens Innovation & Research, will present information on the use of a NDF in the evaluation of forage quality and formulation of dairy rations.
Tom Tylutki and Lynn Gilbert from Agricultural Modeling and Training Systems will tie this new information to ration formulation using the AMTS.Cattle.Professional program, an implementation of the Cornell Net Carbohydrate and Protein System (CNCPS).
The CNCPS was developed to predict requirements, feed utilization, animal performance and nutrient excretion for dairy and beef cattle, using accumulated knowledge about feed composition, digestion, and metabolism in supplying nutrients to meet requirements. AMTS.Cattle.Professional was developed specifically for ration formulation in the field, with numerous features designed to enhance the efficiency of practicing nutritionists, including minimizing repetitious inputs, least-cost and max-income optimization, ability to import lab feed analyses and whole farm feed disappearance and excretion reports.
